NHS Medical Director, Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, told The Sunday Telegraph on 28 October 2017 that many hospitals are failing to deal with serious safety issues, which could lead to patient injuries and fatalities. This is the first time someone in Sir Bruce’s position has spoken publically on this matter.

Victims of Disgraced Cancer Surgeon Call for Public Enquiry After Receiving £37 Million in Compensation

The victims of Ian Paterson, the disgraced cancer surgeon, called earlier this week for a public enquiry to review how private doctors are regulated. The move comes after a High Court judge awarded a £37 million compensation package to the hundreds of people who suffered because of Paterson.

Recent BBC Panorama Programme Highlights inefficiencies in Hospital Care

It was recently reported this month on the BBC’s Panorama programme that there are wide spread inefficiencies in dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in multiple English hospital trusts. In some hospitals, the investigation found that staff are not picking up the early symptoms of sepsis in almost half of patients.

Legal Fee Cap Proposals Risk Access to Justice for Baby Deaths

There has been concern that government plans to cap legal costs for claims where damages are worth less than £25,000. This will have a huge impact on those claiming on the deaths of newborns, and stillbirths.
